Shortstop Luis Aparicio had 2 base hits and Tommy John went the distance as
the Chicago White Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals 4 to 3 at Comiskey
Park.
The deciding run was scored by Chicago in the 8th. After an out was recorded,
Aparicio smacked a single. Aparicio was safe at second on a stolen base.
Gail Hopkins then doubled scoring the run. The Kansas City bats were silent
in the 9th.
John(3-4), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Bob
Johnson(1-3) absorbed the loss. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher
finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Don Gutteridge said after
the game. 'John did not have command of his pitches most of the afternoon,
but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
