Metro's using the DP combo of Schaal at SS and Severson at 2nd is not working defensively. 34,067 fans were treated to a fine game at Tiger Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Detroit Tigers won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.
Detroit started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of the
first scoring 3 runners on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Willie
Horton who made the Detroit fans a happy lot when he lifted one out of the
park for a two run home run (his 3rd of the season). Kansas City had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.
Earl Wilson(1-0) got the win allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Tom Timmerman
recorded his 9th save. Dick Drago(2-5) was charged with the loss. He
allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
