Mike Sweeney Rant

STrat-O-Matic Musings and Stats

4/14/06 Mike Sweeney Should Retire and Become a Monk....

Seriously- walk the earth spread the good word- it's where his heart is, I can't deny a man his true passion, but oh yeah Mike leave the 11 million back here in KC.

Mike Sweeney is a fraud as a baseball player. He's the softest player I currently have witnessed play. The latest evidence-he somehow got himself hit the fatty palm of the hand. Nothing was broken, no stiches, no deep bruise-he got an owy. Many players don't miss a game or at worst come out for X Rays (they were negative), most play the next game. Mike was to sit for 1 game -precautionary (the Royals are always babying the Lord Sweeney) but Mike Sweeney is never out just 1 game- no Mike sat the rest of the series, what series? hmm The NY Yankees. Think there's a coincidence? Randy Johnson on Thursday- ohoh Mike had a set back can't play. Here we are on Friday and we're in Tampa and suddenly Mike is feeling like gutting it out- nice timing captain. That's just it this fraud plays the role of team captain -the guy who sets the tone for the team...well he does do that. Toughest series of the year, a young team on the brink of falling off the cliff and Mike takes a powder. I'm sure the Cap was inspiring the boys with lockerroom Gospel readings but he certainly didn't lead them anywhere but embarrassment. Reggies Sanders- there's professional. I call him "Money" because Reggie doesn't shy away from pressure he takes it on. He's played for winning teams and he is not confused about who he is. Ask Reggie Sanders what he does for a living and he'll tell you, "I'm a baseball player." Ask Swoosh Sweens the same question and he'll say something along lines of , "Well that's a really interesting question, first let me tell all the kids I'll be at the Praise Jesus Hallieluigh church in Peculiar on Monday for out teen talk two. As Thomas said in Corinthiums 3 "My body is a temple and I never took juice from Jeramy Giambi" Ryan I am a messenger and servant of the lord Jesus Chris, I am a father and husband, I am a part of the fabric of Kansas City.....I play baseball when I'm not dling."

Ok it sounds like I'm dissing religion. Some personal bias may creep in but that's not my aim. If Mike Sweeney was a laborer who wanted to talk about Christ with me at his regular 7:45 AM Quick Trip breakfast burrito and 82 oz Red Bull with Vanilla pudding breakfast I would respect him and his beliefs. My problem is Mike Sweeney brings his personal life into his work environment. When was the last time anyone heard Mike Sweeney talk baseball- anyone? I don't give a flip if Sweens found Christ, good for him, but I care a lot about check swing first pitch ground out to pitchers with a man on 3rd base. How dare we boo Sweeney? Give me a break, first off Joe Mays is as accurate with observation as he is hitting the major league strike zone. We didn't boo Sweeney. We booed the at bat. We booed the same lack of execution we have witnessed from elCapitan for several years. We were booing the concept of the Kansas City Royals in the Wal Mart era. Hey I was there 8/9/05 vs Cleveland (the day the franchise died officially- look it up too painful to rewind) don't tell me what I am booing-btw Joe Mays I'm booing you and the 2million dollars your dead arm got.

Sweeney will say things like Terrence Long is a gold glove outfielder- Mike shut up
Sweeney will pull off the rare double snitch switch- He will call a newspaper writer and tell about how he never took steroids (despite no one asking) but he will snitch out his teammates. He tells the reporter that "Yes, he knew some Royals were juicing but not him." The reporter a pretty sharp guy asks the steller question, "So who did use?" "Oh I can't tell you that would be unfair to my teammates"
Huh? You just called out your entire team. You claim to be Dudley Dooright and Mr. Anti Sterioid (and your a liar) but Mr. Christian won't do the right thing and help clean the game up. No of course not. Hey Mike you don't have to do this in a newspaper. Did it ever occur to you to walk into Tony Musers office and say "Hey skip some of the guys are juicing and we need to do somehthing" or call Allard Baird (his phone is always on, the Billy Beane has him on speed dial). nope Mike just shut up and let it all happen so he could rat them out publicly years later but only to make himself look good. Whata guy. Now in that locker room you know those guys want to follow him wherever he leads.

Back to walking with Christ as Lord knows it's the only time he takes a walk. Mike needs to put his energy into what he truly cares about and loves, he needs to work in the field of religion. Go to Divinity school, start a mission, go to Africa and drop bibles err I mean donate bibles to needy aides victims, start a 24 hour Jocks for Christ TV station whatever but he needs to decide if he's a baseball player or a religious figure. Don't tell he can be both-He's paid almost 12 million dollars to play baseball not preach the Gospel. Is Mike canceling speaking engagement and Christian rallies when he's injured? I doubt it. Baseball during the season is the # 1 priority along with his family. Spreading the gospel is 3rd, or if he truely feels the calling he needs to quit baseball and spread the gospel-no problem good luck, but Mike doesn't get to keep our 11 mill- See Mike Sweeney is a George Bush Christian- it's all image when in reality he's as selfish and self absorbed as the next guy. Mike doesn't want to do the really hard work or make the hard sacrifices most people who choose that path do. Don't believe me just check Mike's record for playing games when the team needed him to sack up and sacrifice. Last year road trip vs Yankees guess who didn't play? Sweens reveals himself every day. He can't be counted on. He's not a team player and Mike Sweeney is always thinking about Mike Sweeney first. Hey Mike WWJD? I don't know but I'm pretty sure he takes the 1rst pitch on oppening day. Geez I haven't been this pissed off about baseball since Darell Porter quit drinking.
