Freddie Patek cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the
Minnesota Twins by a score of 7 to 4.
Pittsburgh won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs on 4 hits.
Patek started the attack as he smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 1st of
the season). Matty Alou came next and he doubled. Roberto Clemente then
tripled bringing in another run. After an out was recorded, Richie Hebner
came to the plate and lashed a single scoring the final run of the inning.
Minnesota went down without a fight in the 9th.
Joe Gibbon(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. The loss was
charged to Dick Radatz(0-1) in relief. He allowed 4 hits and no walks in 1
and 1/3 innings.
