Joe Niekro had a strong outing as the Detroit Tigers defeated the ice-cold
Kansas City Royals by the score of 2 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.
Detroit came up with 1 run in the 7th inning. Kansas City could do no damage
in the bottom of the 9th. Niekro(1-2) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the
win. Tom Timmerman earned his 3rd save. Wally Bunker(2-2) was tagged with
the loss.
With this win, Detroit has a 8-8 record. They have been 6-4 lately. Kansas
City can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a
miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
