Bob Moose took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Al Oliver cracked a homer
and had 4 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Minnesota Twins by a
score of 9 to 0 at Metropolitan Stadium.
Oliver provided much of the offense. He doubled plating a run in the 1st
inning and clubbed a three-run home run (his 1st of the season) in the 5th
inning. Pittsburgh rapped out 14 hits for the night.
Moose(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. The right-handed Moose lost his
chance for a no-hitter when Cesar Tovar doubled with one out in the 7th
inning. Jim Perry(0-1) ended up with the loss. He was knocked around,
surrendering 7 runs in 5 innings.
