Left fielder Willie Stargell had 2 base hits at Metropolitan Stadium as the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Minnesota Twins 6 to 5.
The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After
two were out Roberto Clemente doubled. Stargell stepped up next and he hit a
single scoring the run. Stargell took second on the throw. The teams had
been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Bruce Dal Canton(1-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 1 inning. Chuck
Hartenstein recorded the save, his 2nd. Tom Hall(0-1) suffered the loss in
relief.
