Carl Yastrzemski had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Kansas City Royals by the score of 7 to 5 at Municipal Stadium.
Boston went ahead for good in the top of the 6th inning when they tallied 3
runs on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Yastrzemski who deflated the mood
of the partisan fans when he lofted a three-run bomb (his 16th of the
season). Boston had 11 hits overall, while Kansas City had 8.
The win went to Ken Brett(5-2) who allowed 5 runs in 8 innings. Sparky Lyle
got the save, his 11th. Ken Wright(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief.
Boston continued their winnings ways improving their record to 32-24. They
are 9-1 in their last ten games. Bob Lemon was pretty down after the loss.
'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 2-8 in the last
week or two. That won't get it done.'
