Rico Petrocelli cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at Fenway Park as the Boston Red
Sox won in their last at-bat beating the Kansas City Royals by the count of 4
to 3.
Boston scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. John Kennedy doubled.
After an out was recorded, Reggie Smith came to the plate and stroked a
base-hit. Smith took second on the throw. Carl Yastrzemski then ripped a
base-knock giving Boston the win much to the delight of the home town crowd.
The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Sparky Lyle(2-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2/3 of an inning and
allowing no runs. The loss was charged to Jim Rooker(6-3) in relief.
