| 6-5 at Bos- Butler in a poor matchup hangs tough- 1 solo to Rico not much else- Royals can't hit an equally vulnerable Nagy- Lou runs through a stop sign 1-9 home in 7th and is gunned down. Jackie H steals 2nd in 8th but hot Keough fails. off topic Tony Conigliaro starting again 1970 in RF. Beaned in 67 missed 68- -some of 69 and common thought was the beaning ruined his carreer. He hit 260+ 36 homers in 70- about his pre injury norm- is the beaning as myth? Or did Congiliaro just not develop beyond his skills in early 20's and the beaning is the excuse? In 69 .255 20 homers in 500 at bats? worse than before but not awful for the times He came back late September 68 for 18 at bats- certainly not scared then- .333 and 2 homers in the year of the pitcher. So was it after 1970 3 years removed from the beaning he suddenly can't hit and can't "stand in"? Someone should study this |

At Fenway Park, the Boston fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Mike
Nagy(3-4) finally bested his Kansas City opposite, Bill Butler(2-6), by the
score of 2 to 1.
Kansas City was unable to claim the lead after Boston went ahead in the bottom
of the 5th inning plating an isolated run. Kansas City had a chance in the
9th but they came up short.
Sparky Lyle got the save, his 7th. Butler was tagged with the loss. Boston
continued their winnings ways improving their record to 25-23. They are 9-1
in their last ten games. Kansas City has a record of 21-29 after the loss.
